The prosecutor’s office is investigating why the Central Election Commission (CEC) “did not falsify” the recent elections, rather than looking into alleged fraud, Londa Toloraia, representative of the monitoring coalition My Voice said on Thursday.
Toloraia claimed she has not seen law enforcement bodies so “inactive” during an election period, pointing to a lack of alleged effective oversight.
“During my interrogation, it became clear that the prosecutor’s office is not probing election falsification, but rather examining why the CEC did not falsify these elections,” Toloraia claimed, following her questioning in a criminal case linked to alleged electoral fraud the previous day.
She noted that law enforcement agencies “remained silent” throughout the pre-election period, only launching an investigation into election fraud after the CEC faced criticism. However, Toloraia asserted that the investigation appears focused on defending the CEC’s actions rather than addressing claims of fraud.
