Protests continue on Rustaveli Avenue

Protesters have taken to the streets on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi, voicing opposition to the ruling Georgian Dream party’s decision to halt EU membership negotiations until 2028.

Demonstrators have blocked traffic on Rustaveli Avenue, turning the central thoroughfare into a site of mass protest. Similar rallies are taking place in other major cities, including Batumi, Zugdidi, Kutaisi, and Telavi.

The protests were sparked by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s announcement of the government’s decision to delay the EU negotiation process until 2028. Civil society and the opposition argue the move undermines Georgia’s European aspirations and contradicts public sentiment favoring closer ties with the EU.
