Putin prayed for Trump after assassination attempt, US envoy

Russian President Vladimir Putin told him that he went to church and prayed for Donald Trump after the US President survived an assassination attempt, Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special representative in the Middle East, said.

According to Witkoff, during his second visit to Moscow, Putin commissioned a prominent Russian artist to paint a portrait of Trump and asked for it to be delivered to him.

“Putin told me that when Donald Trump was shot at, he went to his church and prayed for Trump. Not because he could become the president of the United States, but because Trump was his friend, and he was praying for a friend,” Witkoff stated.

He also mentioned that he later shared this story with Trump and delivered the portrait to him.

“I don’t think Putin is a bad person. It’s a complicated situation—war and all the components that led to it. It’s never just about one person. I think we will figure it out,” Witkoff added.
