In a decisive vote, Roberta Metsola has been re-elected as the President of the European Parliament for a second term. A total of 623 MEPs participated in the voting, with an overwhelming 562 MEPs supporting Metsola’s candidacy.
Metsola, who hails from Malta, will lead the European Parliament for the next 2.5 years. Her re-election reflects a strong endorsement of her leadership and vision for the institution.
The only other candidate in the race, Irene Montero from Spain, received 61 votes.
Metsola was first elected as President of the European Parliament in early 2022.
