Ruling GD MP slams Estonia’s sanctions on Georgian officials

Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee, Givi Mikanadze, has condemned Estonia’s decision to impose sanctions on 14 Georgian officials, including Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna announced the measures earlier this week.

Mikanadze called the decision “shameful” and accused Estonia of disrespecting Georgian voters and interfering in the country’s internal affairs. He argued that the sanctions disregard the will of the 1.12 million citizens who supported the Georgian Dream government.

“This is a disgraceful decision and yet another blatant interference in our internal affairs. It shows disrespect for the will of the people and the support of 1,120,000 voters, simply because the government they elected for the ninth consecutive time is not acceptable to them,” Mikanadze stated.

He further accused Estonia of prioritizing confrontation and attempting to radicalize the situation in Georgia. “Their actions do not reflect genuine friendship, either in words or deeds. Instead, they are focused on creating confrontation and stirring local-level radicalization,” Mikanadze added.
