Ruling party able to secure constitutional majority – PM

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday expressed confidence in the Georgian Dream party’s ability to secure a constitutional majority in the upcoming general elections in October, aiming for three times more votes than, as he said, the United National Movement opposition.

Kobakhidze highlighted the current opposition landscape, noting that the UNM held 18 percent in recent ratings, with other parties falling below 5 percent. He emphasized the challenges within the opposition, including “internal conflicts” hindering their unity. Kobakhidze emphasized the Georgian Dream’s goal to prevent “any satellite parties” of the UNM –  in office between 2004-2012- from crossing the electoral threshold.

Asserting the Georgian Dream currently, allegedly held up to 60 percent support, Kobakhidze reiterated their ambition to maintain and bolster public backing, aiming for a solid constitutional majority – at least 113 seats in the 150-member parliament.
