Russia strikes Ukraine with missiles and drones, civilians killed and injured

Russian forces launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine overnight, targeting the Kharkiv and Poltava regions. The strikes resulted in civilian casualties, with several people killed and many others injured.

The assault began on the evening of January 31, when Russian forces deployed drones. By early morning, Ukraine came under heavy missile bombardment.

Rescue teams reported that a missile struck a five-story building in Poltava, destroying the entrance from the first to the fifth floor and sparking a fire. Several nearby houses and 12 cars were also damaged. At least three people were killed, and 10 others were injured, including one child. Emergency crews evacuated 21 residents from the damaged building.

Kharkiv and the wider Kharkiv region also came under missile fire. According to initial reports, a 60-year-old woman was killed, and five others were injured.

Local authorities and Ukraine’s State Emergency Service confirmed that after midnight on February 1, the Russian military launched an attack on Zaporizhzhia using 18 drones. Officials described it as one of the most intense drone strikes on the city to date.

The attack caused multiple fires across different districts, damaging infrastructure, residential buildings, and private homes. Educational institutions, vehicles, garages, and houses were set ablaze. A 57-year-old man was injured but declined hospitalization.

Explosions were also reported in the Khmelnytskyi region, though no casualties have been confirmed there.
