Russian drone strike hits Sumy bakery ahead of Easter, one dead

A Russian drone strike early Friday morning targeted a bakery and confectionery factory in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, killing one person and injuring another, local officials have confirmed.

The attack occurred at around 05:00 local time, when three drones struck the facility, which is considered the region’s leading producer of baked goods. The factory was preparing Easter cakes at the time of the strike.

Initial reports of the attack came from Sumy’s acting mayor, Artyom Kobzar, who confirmed a strike on a local enterprise but did not identify the site. Later, at 09:30, the head of the Sumy regional administration, Mikhail Melnik, revealed on Facebook that the target was a confectionery facility engaged in Easter production.

According to the Sumy regional prosecutor’s office, a truck driver who had arrived to collect products was killed in the blast. A female employee of the factory sustained injuries.
