Russian forces launched a combined missile attack on Kyiv, firing up to 10 ballistic missiles at the city, according to Sergey Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.
The assault began around 3:00 a.m. when cruise missiles were launched from Tu-95MS strategic bombers based in Russia’s Saratov region. These missiles approached Kyiv from the south after executing complex maneuvers.
Simultaneously, KN-24/Iskander-M ballistic missiles were fired at Kyiv and its suburbs. An attack drone was also involved in the assault.
“Air defense forces successfully intercepted more than a dozen cruise missiles, as well as around ten ballistic missiles and attack drones over the capital,” Popko stated.
Debris from the intercepted missiles fell in several areas of the city, causing fires that destroyed several cars and damaged non-residential buildings. Authorities are still assessing the extent of the damage and any potential casualties.
