Saakashvili goes on hunger strike again

Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, who was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1, 2021 after eight years in political exile, announced a repeated hunger strike earlier today.

The third president, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, has demanded ‘proper healthcare,’ claiming that the current state leadership  ‘are deliberately damaging’ his health.

He said that the hunger strike is ‘termless’ and will end when his demand is fulfilled.

Saakashvili had already been on a 50-day hunger strike after his arrest and called off the move only after he was transferred to Gori Military Hospital.

However, after a while, the former president was returned to Rustavi No.12 prison.

Saakashvili says that he was a victim of inhuman and degrading treatment in prison and that his health is deteriorating day-by-day.
