Salome Zourabichvili urges EU leaders to address Georgia at European Council Summit

Former Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has sent a joint letter to all European leaders participating in the upcoming European Council summit, urging them to include Georgia on the agenda.

Speaking at a briefing, Zourabichvili stated that the current political climate in Georgia amounts to a “declared war against society,” citing recent government actions such as the freezing of funds supporting civil society and new media regulations aimed at restricting freedom of expression.

She also criticized the so-called “British law,” which she claims is designed to block foreign funding in Georgia, making it increasingly difficult for independent organizations to operate.

“Very soon, we will see repression in all sectors. The country is not only isolated from its partners but is moving towards complete closure. The judiciary is becoming a façade, controlled by a single force,” Zourabichvili warned.

She also highlighted the growing trend of dismissing public servants for expressing opinions on social media, calling it a violation of human rights.

Zourabichvili emphasized that Georgia’s crisis is not an isolated issue but part of a broader European struggle.

“Whatever the priorities of the European Council may be, Georgia cannot be ignored. What is happening in Georgia is a hybrid form of aggression against the country’s European aspirations,” she stated.
