Seven Georgian Olympic medalists to receive prestigious state honors

In recognition of their achievements at the Paris Olympics, the Georgian government has announced that all Olympic medalists will be nominated for prestigious state awards.

The Government said the decision highlighted the nation’s pride in its athletes, who secured a historic 24th place in the overall team competition, with a total of three gold, three silver, and one bronze medals.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, in a joint statement on Monday, emphasized the importance of honoring the athletes for their contributions to the country. “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Georgian Olympians and the entire nation for this tremendous success,” they said.

Among the honorees, weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze, judoka Lasha Bekauri, and wrestler Geno Petriashvili will be awarded the Order of Victory named after St. George. Other Olympic medalists, including Tato Grigalashvili, Ilia Sulamanidze, Givi Macharashvili, and Lasha Guruli, will receive the Order of Honor.
