Six individuals, including foreign nationals and previously convicted offenders, have been arrested in Tbilisi on charges related to drug trafficking, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.
The arrests were carried out by the main divisions of the Tbilisi Police Department in Gldani-Nadzaladevi, Vake-Saburtalo, Old Tbilisi, and Isani-Samgori districts. The detentions followed a series of operational and investigative actions.
The suspects include a Georgian citizen born in 1996, and foreign nationals born in 2007 and 1990. Also detained were previously convicted individuals born in 1984, 1995, and 1994.
The detainees are accused of illegally purchasing, possessing, preparing to sell, and attempting to sell various types of narcotics, including marijuana, heroin, methadone, mephedrone, buprenorphine, and alpha-PVP. Some were apprehended after undercover police operations involving controlled drug purchases, which were audio-visually recorded.
During searches of the suspects’ residences and locations they indicated, police seized large and particularly large quantities of illegal drugs. In one case, from the apartment of suspect G.K., officers recovered cash allegedly obtained from drug sales—€15,515, $15,500, and ₾6,550.
The crimes are punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment under multiple articles of Georgia’s Criminal Code.
