The leader of the Strong Georgia opposition coalition Mamuka Khazaradze, met with Giorgi Gakharia, the head of the Gakharia – For Georgia party, on Wednesday to discuss a potential coalition ahead of the October general elections, but negotiations remain unresolved.
After the meeting at the Orbelian Presidential Palace, Khazaradze said that discussions would continue and expressed optimism about uniting for the “greater interest” of Georgia. “The most important thing now is to show the Georgian people that it is possible to unite around the idea and for the interests of Georgia,” Khazaradze claimed.
However, Gakharia highlighted challenges, noting that an agreement with Khazaradze’s team had not yet been reached. “It seems that Mamuka did not manage to reach an agreement with the team. For now, let’s see, I will wait,” Gakharia said, adding that the issues were not related to the electoral list, as some had speculated.
Salome Zourabichvili, President of Georgia, was the initiator of the coalition and involved in facilitating the discussions between the two parties, hosting the leaders at the Orbelian Palace.
