Students protest at Tbilisi State University, police block access to building

Students remain gathered at the entrance of the first building of Tbilisi State University (TSU), where law enforcement officials are preventing them from entering. Tensions have flared multiple times between the police and students during the ongoing standoff.

“This is probably the first time in 100 years that the door of TSU is locked. What more could you expect from the Russian regime? We were at Republic Square, planning a march towards Parliament, when we suddenly learned that students, who wanted to enter the university, were being denied access,” one student explained, adding the only information they received was that the administration had banned students from entering.

„When we requested to speak with them, the police told us they had no contact with the administration. This is absurd. They’re even preventing professors from entering to hold lectures. It’s shameful,” the same student stressed.

According to the students, no one will accept the so-called “Russian regime” in the country and they will not be intimidated by the actions of the security forces.

Expert Nika Chitadze commented on the protest, calling the situation a clear violation of the law. “Everyone has the right to freedom of movement, especially our young generation, our students,” Chitadze said.

According to him, many of the protesters were students of Tbilisi State University, and they have every right to enter the university.

„There’s nothing dangerous happening here, no talk of a coup or illegal activities. This is about people exercising their civic rights to enter the university where they study. Unfortunately, under this government, future generations are being denied the opportunity to enter Ivane Javakhishvili State University, which is a very sad reality,” he stressed.
The protest at TSU continues as students demand their right to enter the university and speak out against the restrictions.
