Surveys conducted in Russia show increased support for peace talks

Recent surveys conducted in Russia reveal growing public support for peace negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine, signaling a shift in attitudes among the Russian population.

According to a November survey by the research company Russian Field, 53% of Russians favor peace talks – the highest level since the start of the large-scale war in February 2022. In contrast, 36% support continuing hostilities, marking the lowest level of war support recorded during the conflict. This trend of rising support for negotiations and declining backing for the war has been evident since early 2023.

The survey highlights that women (59%), young people (68%), low-income Russians (59%), and followers of online media or Telegram channels (51%) are the most inclined to favor peace talks.

Furthermore, 79% of respondents said they would support signing a peace agreement “tomorrow,” while 60% are open to a ceasefire without preconditions.
