The Tbilisi City Court has imposed a bail of 50,000 GEL on businessman Giorgi Bachiashvili in connection with the Mtkvari Hydro Power Plant case. The decision was made by Judge Lela Maridashvili on February 25.
The Prosecutor’s Office had requested the same amount of bail for the defendant.
Bachiashvili was charged in the morning of February 25 with failing to fulfill his duties as the General Director of the Co-Investment Fund of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and honorary chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party. Under the charges outlined in Article 220¹ of the Criminal Code, he faces a prison sentence ranging from two to five years.
This is the second legal case against Bachiashvili, with both cases linked to the interests of Bidzina Ivanishvili. The first case, initiated in 2023 based on Ivanishvili’s statement, accuses Bachiashvili of embezzling $39,215,820 in cryptocurrency. In response to this, the court imposed a 2.5 million GEL bail on Bachiaashvili on July 6, 2023.
