Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze reaffirmed his support for Georgia’s European aspirations, emphasizing that the country’s future lies within Europe. Kaladze made the statement while commenting on remarks by Georgian football players addressing the nation’s current political climate.
“I completely agree with everyone who shares this sentiment. Georgia’s future is undoubtedly European. The Georgian government is fully committed to the path of European integration. Any success achieved in this direction has been under the leadership of the Georgian Dream government,” Kaladze stated.
The mayor acknowledged existing challenges, criticizing what he called “artificial obstacles” created by external actors. Referring to recent debates over EU candidate status and negotiations, he said, “Today, they’ve come up with a new tactic, using the opening of negotiations as a tool of blackmail. But our actions have stripped these individuals of their leverage. If you want negotiations, we’re ready. But blackmail is completely unacceptable.”
Kaladze expressed confidence in Georgia’s ability to navigate the challenges and complete its journey toward European integration with dignity.
