Bidzina Ivanishvili, the honorary chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, has raised concerns about the dangers of pseudo-liberal ideology during an exclusive interview with TV Imedi.
Ivanishvili stated that the founders of today’s liberal ideology are effectively monopolizing the media, much like they once did in Georgia. He noted that when critical and diverse opinions are silenced, it becomes easy to mislead the public into living in a virtual reality.
However, he emphasized that this approach will not work in Georgia, as the country has real democracy.
“The ideology that today’s liberals call ‘liberal’ is not just dangerous but extremely dangerous. Its founders have managed, as they did in Georgia and many developed countries, to monopolize the media. When critical voices are silenced, it becomes easy to create a virtual reality for society and make them believe it’s true. But this won’t work in Georgia, because we have real democracy. Just look at how many TV channels we have, and even more could open tomorrow. This is not like the past when satellite dishes were confiscated and we were denied access to independent sources of information,” Ivanishvili explained.
