Transparency International Georgia: CEC and state institutions are captured by one political party

Eka Gigauri, the head of Transparency International Georgia NGO, criticized the Central Election Commission (CEC), stating that it, like other institutions in the country, is captured and serves a single political party, the ruling Georgian Dream.

According to Gigauri, those involved in election fraud have committed criminal offenses, and the current parliament lacks legitimacy. She emphasized that the CEC’s declaration of election results does not reflect the will of the Georgian electorate.

“The CEC, like other institutions in our country, is captured and serves one specific political party. It is important to remember that the individuals involved in election fraud have committed criminal acts. They are criminals. Everyone who participated in rigging the elections is a criminal,” Gigauri said.

She called for continued resistance, urging the public not to accept the current situation. “We must fight for our country and demand new elections. This parliament is illegitimate, and what the CEC announced does not represent the will of the Georgian people,” she added.

Earlier today, the CEC released its final summary protocol, which declared Georgian Dream as the winning party with 53.93% of the vote, securing 89 parliamentary mandates.
