Trump impeachment process begins in the US Congress

The US Senate has begun a second trial to impeach former President Donald Trump on charges of inciting his supporters to storm the Capitol deadly on January 6.

Writes Reuters.

At a meeting on February 9, senators are to find out whether the consideration of the impeachment case is constitutional. After the debate, a vote will take place. It will take two-thirds of the 100 votes to convict Trump, of which at least 17 are Republican votes.

If the decision is upheld, Trump will never be able to hold public office.

Donald Trump is the only US President to be impeached twice by the House of Representatives, and he could become the first to be impeached after leaving office.
