Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday expressed support for US President Donald Trump’s plan to dismantle the so-called “Deep State,” calling it an ambitious agenda that could significantly impact Georgia-US relations.
Kobakhidze made the remarks during a government session coinciding with the inauguration of Trump.
“President Trump has announced an ambitious plan to defeat the ‘Deep State.’ We wish him success in this crucial endeavor. Victory in this struggle will play a decisive role in normalizing relations between Georgia and the United States,” Kobakhidze claimed.
Kobakhidze also described the inauguration as a pivotal moment for the United States and expressed hope for a more stable global climate over the next four years. Reflecting on the previous four years, he cited numerous crises, including the ongoing war in Ukraine, economic challenges in Europe, and political unrest in Georgia.
“The past four years have been exceptionally challenging for the world and our country. From Ukraine to the Middle East, instability has dominated. We’ve also faced internal turmoil, with four attempted revolutions in Georgia during this period,” he said.
The Prime Minister was particularly critical of what he called the rise of “liberal fascism,” describing it as a global problem that has gained momentum in recent years. “We have great hope that the next four years will be qualitatively different—calmer for the world—and that this positive shift will reflect on Georgia as well.”
Kobakhidze also emphasized Georgia’s readiness to reset its relationship with the United States, aiming to renew their strategic partnership on a clean slate. “We are committed to strengthening our ties with the US., and we look forward to significant progress in this direction. The year 2025 will be pivotal,” he said.
Turning to domestic matters, Kobakhidze stressed the importance of 2025 as a year for resolving internal political tensions. He vowed to “put an end to radicalism” and “liberal fascism” in Georgia, framing it as essential for the country’s continued development.
“We must deliver a decisive blow to radicals in our country. Radicalism and liberal fascism must end to ensure Georgia’s steady progress and the achievement of our national goals,” Kobakhidze pledged.
