US President Donald Trump has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a peace settlement to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump emphasized the economic toll on Russia and warned of potential consequences if negotiations are not pursued.
“Putin is destroying Russia by refusing to sign the agreement,” Trump stated, pointing to inflation and economic instability within Russia. He hinted at the possibility of imposing new sanctions if the Kremlin remains unwilling to negotiate.
The US President also underscored that his administration has maintained communication with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and plans to extend dialogue to the Russian leadership soon. Trump reiterated his belief that Zelenskyy is committed to achieving peace but did not provide clarity on whether the US would continue to supply weapons to Ukraine.
Instead, Trump criticized the European Union, urging it to take greater responsibility for aiding Ukraine, citing the conflict’s heavier impact on Europe compared to the United States.
