Turkish citizen arrested in Georgia for sexual extortion

A 45-year-old Turkish national has been arrested by the Special Investigation Service in Georgia on charges of sexual extortion.

The investigation revealed the victim, a 24-year-old woman from Tbilisi, had met the suspect through a social network. The two later met in Batumi, where they formed a romantic relationship.

However, unbeknownst to the woman, the man secretly recorded their intimate moments using his mobile phone. He also accessed and copied other private, intimate content from her phone without her consent.

When the woman decided to end the relationship, the Turkish citizen allegedly resorted to blackmail, demanding that she resume their relationship.

Upon her refusal, he retaliated by distributing the explicit videos to her family members and acquaintances via social networks. The suspect went further, creating fake Instagram and Facebook profiles in the names of the victim and her family members, where he publicly posted the intimate material. This harassment continued over several years, from 2022 to 2024. Additionally, the man impersonated the victim online, sharing her contact information and sending explicit content to strangers, leading to further unwanted contact from unknown men.
If convicted, the man faces up to eight years in prison.
