The British Embassy in Georgia has issued a statement expressing “serious concern” over the Georgian government’s handling of alleged election violations. The Embassy criticized the lack of a “thorough and independent” investigation into the irregularities reported during recent elections.
“We note the convening of the Georgian Parliament today. We continue to have serious concerns about election violations, which have not yet been investigated in a thorough or independent fashion,” the statement reads.
The Embassy called on Georgian authorities to adhere to the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR (Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights) election monitoring mission following the publication of its final report. The UK also echoed ODIHR’s call for the government to enable peaceful protests and engage constructively in dialogue with opposition forces.
