The UK has warned Russia of tough sanctions if it attacks Ukraine.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has stated new legislation is expected to expand the UK’s sanctions regime if Russia decides to repeat its aggression against Ukraine.
Currently the UK authorities can only impose sanctions on those directly linked to Russian actions in Ukraine.
But the new law will allow it to include more individuals and businesses on the list.
Russia says that the sanctions, if they are really imposed, will also hurt British companies.
Russia has placed about 100,000 troops, tanks, artillery and missiles near Ukraine’s frontiers.
However, Russian officials claim that they have no plans to attack the country.
