Ukraine inflicts heavy losses on Russian forces in August

The Ukrainian Armed Forces inflicted significant losses on Russian forces in August 2024, according to Commander of the Land Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pavliuk. In a Sunday statement, Pavliuk reported that approximately 36,810 Russian soldiers were killed, and 6,383 pieces of military equipment were destroyed during the month.

Among the equipment destroyed were 193 tanks, 557 armored combat vehicles, 1,517 artillery systems, 44 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), and 33 air defense systems. Ukrainian forces also took down 2,065 vehicles, 278 units of special equipment, five airplanes, two helicopters, 1,539 drones, and 150 enemy missiles.

The Ukrainian General Staff also reported on September 1 that since the start of the invasion, Russian casualties have reached approximately 616,300 personnel, along with the loss of 8,592 tanks and hundreds of other military assets.

Ukrainian media reports that in localized operations, Ukrainian forces dealt substantial blows to Russian troops in specific regions. Near Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, the 71st Air Assault Brigade reportedly eliminated nearly 1,200 Russian soldiers. Video footage released by the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces on Telegram shows members of the 71st Separate Ranger Brigade engaging in combat in the area.
