UNM Chair: Georgian election lacks international legitimacy amidst fraud allegations

Tina Bokuchava, chair of Georgia’s United National Movement opposition party, declared that the October 26 election lacks international legitimacy. She cites what she describes as an unprecedented level of vote manipulation and emphasizes the need for sustained and strategic street protests, along with continued engagement with international partners, to contest the results.

“This election lacks international legitimacy, as only nine countries, three of which do not recognize Georgia’s territorial integrity, have supported it. We cannot compare this to past elections. Georgia has never seen fraud on this scale before,” she stressed.

Bokuchava noted that in order to regain victory, two parallel processes are needed: Dialogue with international partners and street protests.

’’This demands maximum street engagement, a results-focused, continuous process, and robust diplomacy with our international allies,” Bokuchava stated.

Georgian opposition holds a large-scale protest rally at Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi at 7 pm today.
