US Ambassador to Georgia, Robin Dunnigan, on Tuesday expressed confidence that the results of the US presidential and Georgian parliamentary elections will not affect the enduring relationship between the two nations.
Speaking at an election breakfast organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Tbilisi, Dunnigan emphasised that the ties between the people of Georgia and the United States, as well as across sectors including business, academia, think tanks, and military, were resilient and would remain strong regardless of election outcomes.
“I truly believe that no matter what happens in the Georgia election or the US election, the relationship between the people of Georgia and the people of the United States – between our companies, universities, businesses, think tanks, institutions, military, law enforcement – all of these relationships will withstand any political election, whatever the outcome in any country,” Dunnigan said at the reception held at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Tbilisi.
The ambassador expressed pride in representing the United States in Georgia and assured that the diplomatic and people-to-people ties between the two countries would endure through political changes.
In the context of the ongoing US presidential election, Republican candidate Donald Trump claimed victory in the November 5 election, according to preliminary results, against his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. However, the final determination of the winner will be made by the electoral college, with 270 votes required out of 538 to secure the presidency. Trump, who defeated Harris in the early results, hailed the victory as a “historic” achievement for the Republican Party.
