In a recent congressional hearing, the US Congress reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Georgian people and maintaining the country’s Euro-Atlantic path.
Opposition MP Roman Gotsiridze told Front News that the hearing underscored America’s determination to prevent “Bidzina Ivanishvili’s government” from shifting Georgia away from its Western integration goals and towards Russia’s influence.
Gotsiridze conveyed that if the Georgian government manipulated the upcoming elections, it could face significant repercussions, including personal sanctions from the United States. The hearing also emphasized that both the US and the European Union were focused on ensuring the elections were conducted fairly, with extensive observer deployment planned to monitor the process, he said.
Gotsiridze warned that “continued backing of Ivanishvili’s administration” could lead to severe international isolation and other significant consequences for Georgia.
