The US congressional delegation, composed of Alex Mooney, Bryan George Steil ,Kelly Armstrong, Carol Devine Miller and Ronald Jean Estes, arrived in Georgia earlier today to meet with Georgian top officials and visit the occupation line in the central Shida Kartli region of Georgia.
They are scheduled to meet with PM Irakli Garibashvili, ministers of defence, foreign affairs and economy and legislators.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry claims that the visit ‘points at the US strong support.’
The arrival comes after critical comments of the US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan on the ruling Georgian Dream party’s withdrawal from the April 2021 EU-mediated agreement and the government of Georgia’s refusal to take the second portion of the EU’s 150 million euro loan.
Degnan said that she was ‘surprised’ by the decision of the Georgian government and that Washington will also consider the government’s step regarding the EU loan.
