Voters abroad with unclear or occupied territory addresses will be allowed to vote, CEC confirms

Georgians living abroad whose registration addresses are listed as either in occupied territories or unclear, according to the State Services Development Agency’s database, will be allowed to participate in the upcoming October 26 elections. This decision was announced by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Giorgi Kalandarishvili on Saturday.

Kalandarishvili emphasized that the CEC unanimously approved the decision, effectively putting an end to any speculation on the issue.

“As per the resolution, for the October 26 parliamentary elections, voters abroad who are registered as living in occupied territories or whose addresses are unclear as of October 7 will be included in the special voter list for polling stations established abroad. This applies to voters who are registered with consulates or diplomatic missions by October 7. Those who are not registered can still do so at polling stations abroad, provided they hold a valid Georgian ID or passport,” Kalandarishvili stated.

He added that the decision aims to expand the voter base and ensure that all citizens are able to exercise their constitutional right to vote, calling on all eligible voters abroad to complete their registration at the established polling stations.

Kalandarishvili also highlighted that the resolution was necessary because, under previous legislation, these voters could not participate in the elections due to technical and legislative inconsistencies. After further discussions, the resolution was refined and approved, ensuring that those affected can now vote.
