Pawel Herczynski, the European Union ambassador to Georgia, on Monday said what the bloc wished Tbilisi to do, was to prevent the use of its territory and companies for evading the sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking to the media, the diplomat stressed “no information” confirming circumventing the sanctions with the use of Georgia had been available so far.
“At the moment, we do not have any information[ confirming Georgia’s use to evade the sanctions]”, said the ambassador.
Herczynski highlighted the EU had imposed “strictest sanctions” on Russia to change its behavior and force it to suspend its ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
“Georgia has implemented some of our sanctions, but not all of them. What we would like Georgia to do is that its territory and companies are not used to evade sanctions, and at the moment we have no information, evidence that Georgia is helping to circumvent our sanctions,” the ambassador said.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, with hostilities still in progress.
