The US, UK and other world leaders have said that steps taken would be decisive and Russia will have to pay a high price for its recent decision to launch a full-scale invasion in Ukraine.
Russian president Vladimir Putin announced the military operation into Ukraine at 5.55am Moscow time which was followed by first shelling.
Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister, has tweeted that “the world must act immediately” and the “future of Europe and the world is at stake”.
Kuleba has called for “devastating sanctions”, including banning Russia from using the SWIFT financial transaction system.
Kuleba stated that the world must “fully isolate Russia” and provide Ukraine with weapons and other necessities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the public to stay calm.
Earlier this week Russia recognized Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions as independent states.
Earlier it raised its demands towards NATO and the US which included the refusal by NATO to add Georgia and Ukraine as new members in the future.
