Ukrainian law enforcement officials reported on suspicion of ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych of high treason. According to investigators, in 2010 he assisted Russia in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine.
The Office of the Attorney General reports.
We are talking about the so-called Kharkiv agreements between the then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and the head of the Ukrainian state Viktor Yanukovych. The document extended the stay of the Russian fleet in Crimea for 25 years under the pretext of obtaining a discount on natural gas.
Law enforcers point out that in fact the document did not provide this discount. Before signing the documents, the price for Ukraine was doubled.
"As of the end of 2008, the price of gas per 1,000 cubic meters for Ukraine was $ 179.5, while at the end of 2010 it was $ 352.33. In addition, it was precisely the decrease that was recognized as Ukraine's obligations on the state debt to the Russian Federation, which are repaid, "the UCP message says.
According to the investigation, Russia at first artificially created and accumulated Ukraine's debt for the supply of gas, and then, to repay it, in particular by allegedly providing a discount, placed its fleet in Crimea for free.
“As a result of the so-called“ Kharkov agreements ”signed by the ex-president, the personnel of the troops and military equipment of the RF Armed Forces on the territory of Ukraine was increased instead of preparations for their reduction and withdrawal from the territory of Ukraine,” the law enforcement officers state.
The Office of the Prosecutor General recalled that it was the military from the Russian fleet who were directly involved in the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014.
The Yanukovych-Medvedev agreement was signed on April 21, 2010. According to the document, the period of stay of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol has been extended from 2017 to 2042 with an automatic extension of 5 years, if either party does not raise objections, and a rent has been set.
