Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed anticipation for new peace initiatives from the next US president, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation to end the war in Ukraine.
“We are open, I will say it again, and to leaders of African, Asian, and Arab countries… We are ready to see their proposals. I would also like to see the proposals of the new US president. I think we will see these proposals already in January, and I believe we will have a plan to end this war,” Zelenskyy stated.
The Ukrainian leader underscored the need to counter Russian disinformation, rejecting claims that Ukraine is unwilling to consider proposals from non-Western partners. “This is a lie,” he said, reaffirming Kyiv’s openness to diverse international contributions.
Zelenskyy also expressed confidence in gaining the support of the Global South, predicting stronger alignment with Ukraine once the US adopts a firmer stance. “I am sure that we have every chance to do this [end the war] next year,” he said, adding that Ukraine’s actions, rooted in the UN Charter, would continue to garner backing from international allies.
