Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has congratulated Donald Trump on his “impressive” election victory, highlighting the “strong strategic partnership” between the United States and Ukraine.
In a social media post, Zelenskyy recalled a “productive meeting” with Trump in September, where the two leaders discussed key issues, including Ukraine-US relations, the Victory Plan, and strategies to end Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the ‘peace through strength’ approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer. I am hopeful that we will put it into action together,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader expressed confidence in the continued strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States, emphasising the importance of the US in supporting Ukraine’s security and sovereignty.
Zelenskyy also noted Ukraine’s dedication to ensuring long-term peace and stability in Europe and the Transatlantic community, emphasising the country’s role as one of Europe’s strongest military powers.
“I look forward to personally congratulating President Trump and discussing ways to further strengthen Ukraine’s strategic partnership with the United States,” Zelenskyy concluded.
