Zelenskyy slams Georgian Gov’t for crackdown on opposition and activists

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the Georgian government for a recent crackdown on activists, protestors, and opposition members in Georgia, announcing that Kyiv is preparing sanctions in response to recent developments.

In a statement, Zelenskyy emphasized that the ongoing situation in Georgia extends beyond its borders and is of international concern. He criticized the Georgian government of being influenced by Russian interests.

“It is simply shameful what they are doing against their own people. When Moscow praises the current government in Georgia, it clearly shows who they are working for in Tbilisi and who they are suppressing protests for. It is certainly not for the Georgian people,” he declared.

The Ukrainian President confirmed that he has instructed his administration to draft the necessary legal measures to impose sanctions.

“We are preparing our legal response and coordinating with European partners and others for specific actions,” Zelenskyy stated, hinting at a unified international response to the crackdown on protesters and opposition figures in Georgia.
