Zelenskyy: Ukraine’s dream is to end war in 2025 with security guarantees

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that Ukraine could end the war in 2025 by securing strong security guarantees to prevent future Russian aggression. Speaking in a television interview with Italian broadcaster RaiNews24 on January 10, Zelenskyy highlighted the devastating toll of the war and Ukraine’s desire for lasting peace.

“It’s crucial for us that peace comes. We desire peace more than anyone else. And it’s obvious, as we are the ones suffering the most, particularly in terms of lives lost,” Zelenskyy said. “It is our dream to obtain these (security) guarantees this year and to end the war this year. We will do everything to achieve this.”

The comments come as international attention on ending the war intensifies, with US President-elect Donald Trump set to take office on January 20. Trump’s incoming administration reportedly aims to bring an end to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine within 100 days of his inauguration, according to Keith Kellogg, Trump’s designated Ukraine peace envoy, who made the statement on January 8.
