The fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, has met with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, in Riga. The talks focused on Georgia’s European aspirations and the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations.
Following the meeting, President Zourabichvili expressed gratitude for Latvia’s continued support. “He once again confirmed Latvia’s unwavering support for Georgia and the Georgian people. Thank you for standing by Georgia on this path,” she wrote on X.
President Rinkēvičs reaffirmed Latvia’s commitment to Georgia’s democratic development and European integration, underlining his country’s “strong backing” for the aspirations of the Georgian people.
The visit comes amid protests in Georgia sparked by the Georgian Dream Government’s decision late last year to halt the country’s EU integration until 2028.
Zourabichvili accuses the GD authorities of rigging the 2024 general elections and aligning with Russian interests.
