Zourabichvili “no longer” Georgia’s President, she’s “UNM’s President” – Kobakhidze

Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday claimed Salome Zourabichvili, the Georgian President, was “no longer” the country’s President and instead was the “President of the United National Movement radical opposition”, following Zourabichvili’s failed impeachment earlier during the day.

He claimed despite the party’s failure to dismiss the President, the majority of MPs, 86, in the 150-member Parliament, voted for Zourabichvili’s impeachment following the Constitutional Court ruling on Monday that approved the GD allegations that the President had violated the law through her recent foreign visits without the Government’s approval.

“She will only formally be the President [until the next election in 2024]”, Kobakhidze said.

Zourabichvili rejected the allegations and accused the GD of “impeaching” the country’s EU integration.
