Czech MEP Gregorova responds to Kobakhidze, gives example how to “get rid of oligarch”

Czech MEP Marketa Gregorova responded to the head of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday, who said that Gregorova's party "gets 15 percent" and that the former had no moral right to teach the Georgian authorities how to act.

"She is not even the leader of her political party. She was unable to convince [more than 15%] of Czech people to vote for them,” Kobakhidze stated.

The MEP claimed that she was proud of the “young Czech democracy.”

“Yes, our young Czech democracy is quite proud in its plurality. We have a government formed out of five parties, which overcame their differences to get rid of one oligarch. I wish for Georgia the same. More cooperating parties with 15 percent, representing the diversity in society!” the MEP tweeted.

The Czech government is made up of a coalition of conservative (SPOLU - "Civic Democrats" and "Christian Democrats") and liberal (PirSTAN - "Pirates", "Mayors" and "Independents") alliances.

As for the "defeated oligarch" mentioned by Gregorova, it refers to billionaire Andrej Babis, the former prime minister (2017-21), who is accused of using subsidies allocated by the EU in 2007 to support small businesses for his holding.

Babis is currently awaiting trial, scheduled for September 2022.

The recent European Parliament resolution called for sanctions on the founder of the GD, tycoon Bidzina Ivanishvili, which the ruling party said was ‘unfounded and unfair.”
