Saakashvili’s, Gvaramia’s case show how Georgian judiciary works - MEP Fotyga

MEP Anna Fotyga on Friday posted an article on imprisoned former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and said the cases of the former top official and convicted head of the opposition-minded Mtavari channel Nika Gvaramia “show how the Georgian judiciary work”.

“Almost a decade has passed since the peaceful transfer of power by Saakashvili. Despite this, his situation and Nika Gvaramia’s case are symbolic and show how the Georgian judiciary works”, she said.

Gvaramia and Saakashvili had been convicted for abuse of power - Saakashvili while running the country as the third president and Gvaramia at the helm of Rustavi 2 TV.

The MEP’s comment follows the recent trial hearing on granting Saakashvili’s release on medical grounds or the postponement of the rest of his six-year-term.

Featuring Saakashvili in a poor condition amid the trial via an online link, also pushed fellow MP Viola von Cramon once again to call for his release.
