European Council president says Georgian citizens’ place in Europe

You, the citizens of Georgia, have made a clear choice for European values and freedom, and that is why your future place is in our common European family, the European Council President Charles Michel said in a video address to the citizens of Georgia on Tuesday, in his Europe Day messages.

"Dear Georgian citizens, dear President, today is Europe Day, which is celebrated for the first time in Georgia after European leaders announced that Georgia's future lies in the bloc. We wish you all the best, we stand by your side. I wish you a happy Europe Day", said the EU official.

The video link had been ensured by the Georgian president’s administration.

Georgia obtained a European perspective in June 2022, with the bloc scheduled to decide on the country’s membership candidate status by the end of this year.

Tbilisi applied for the bloc’s membership in March of last year, shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, instead of scheduled 2024.
