Ukrainian MP Arakhamia vows support for “native Georgia” to “overcome gap”

Ukrainian lawmaker of Georgian origin, David Arakhamia, on Wednesday pledged support for his “native Georgia '' to overcome the “current gap”, following his meeting with EU officials as part of the Europe Day celebrations in Kyiv.

In all his remarks Arakhamia points to “running Georgia by oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili [in reference to the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party],” and presence of “political prisoners” in Georgia, including former president Mikheil Saakashvili, and Nika Gvaramia, a convicted head of the opposition-minded Mtavari channel.

Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili verbally abused the Ukrainian lawmaker in his May 9 comments on Tuesday, and reiterated he had been connected with the “radical” United National Movement opposition in Georgia and was interested in the  coup and dragging” the country into the ongoing conflict.

Levan Khabeishvili, the UNM chair, however claimed Arakhamia, as a “Georgian man and an internally displaced person” from Georgia’s currently Russian-controlled Abkhazia region, was interested in the country’s fate and its European future.
