President of Georgian Film Academy resigns, cites “busy schedule”

The President of the Georgian Film Academy Konstantine Esadze on Wednesday announced his resignation, citing “busy schedule” as the reason.

He claimed the position required “selfless work and daily engagement” and his activities abroad as a cinematographer over the past two years, did not allow his active involvement in the academy’s activities.

“I hope the new president after the elections will offer many new initiatives to the members of the academy and the cinematographers”, he said.

The resignation comes following the turmoil in the Georgian National Film Center, whose employees accused the Culture Minister Thea Tsulukiani of “politically motivated actions”, and dismissing the culture figures not positive to the Georgian Dream authorities.
