Georgia will get candidate status thanks to people, Europeans - opposition MP

Paata Manjgaladze, an MP of the Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition, on Monday claimed the country was expected to obtain the European Union membership candidate status in December “due to the Georgian people and Europeans”.

“The current Government will fail to sabotage the country’s EU candidacy” he said.

Beka Davituliani, the ruling Georgian Dream party MP, however, claimed the opposition was trying to “underestimate” the Government's work, while the opposition groups had “refused” to get involved in the implementation of the candidacy conditions.

The European Commission will publish its report on Tbilisi’s meeting the conditions on Wednesday.
