442 fatalities, 7,310 injuries reported in Georgia’s road accidents in 2023

The Georgian Interior Ministry on Friday reported 442 fatalities and 7,310 injuries across the country last year. 

 

A total of 5,594 traffic accidents were documented across the country in 2023, with a significant portion concentrated in the capital city, as per official records.

 

The leading causes of these accidents included speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, violations of overtaking and pedestrian crossing rules, as well as inadequate distance maintenance and other traffic violations.

 

Analyzing the types of accidents, statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs indicate that the majority involved moving vehicles, accounting for 1,855 incidents resulting in 104 fatalities and 2,898 injuries. 

 

Additionally, there were 1,638 reported collisions involving pedestrians, resulting in 95 deaths and 1,665 injuries during the same period.Comparatively, in 2022, the country recorded 5,469 traffic accidents, leading to 430 fatalities and 7,517 injuries.
