EU Ambassador lauds NGOs’ “crucial role” for Georgia’s European aspirations

On the International Day of Non-Governmental Organizations, Pawel Herczynski, the EU Ambassador to Georgia, highlighted the significance of these organizations, emphasizing their role in democratic processes.

The diplomat’s statement on Tuesday, endorsed by the EU, underscored the “pivotal role” NGOs play in governance oversight and their provision of essential social services, particularly for marginalized communities.

"Non-governmental organizations are essential pillars of any democracy, ensuring accountability and inclusivity. Georgia's vibrant civil society greatly contributes to the nation's progress towards European integration," the Ambassador said.

He reaffirmed the EU's “unwavering support” for NGOs in Georgia, emphasizing their “indispensable role” in fostering a more just and prosperous future.

Georgia attained the bloc’s membership candidate status last year with nine conditions to ensure the opening of accession talks. The conditions involve the engagement of the domestic civil society in the related work.
