Commander of Italian defence forces discuss ties, cooperation in Tbilisi visit

The Commander of the Italian Defense Forces, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, on Tuesday discussed ties, cooperation and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration process in Tbilisi meetings with Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani and Major General Giorgi Matiashvili.

Chikovani thanked the Italian side for its “strong political and practical support” for Georgia's territorial integrity, sovereignty and integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures. The minister also noted Italy’s role as an “important international partner” in increasing Georgia's self-defence capabilities.

The exchange with Matiashvili involved joint participation in multinational military exercises, NATO-Georgia cooperation, as well as security challenges in the South Caucasus region.

At the end of the visit, the official laid a wreath at the memorial of fallen Georgian servicemembers in central Tbilisi.
